Fascism is what happens when colonialism comes home—the slow and methodical death of the colonized through the exploitation of human labor and natural resources. It puts in place an iron-fist regime, justified and rationalized by eugenics and an invisible sky god. It uses terror, actual or threatened, to maintain control. With all of this comes the ability to act with impunity.
Trump and his regime are the colonizers. All of us are the colonized. Each state is treated as a separate country that receives rewards or punishments depending on the pliability and perceived loyalty of its leaders. Each state is forced to have an ICE detention center—a mini Guantanamo Bay—that operates as an invading force that is only answerable to the colonizers. It is not subject to any state laws or regulations, and state officials are not allowed to enter. Only with great reluctance are federal officials allowed to enter, and often require express permission to do so.
Right now, we the people are being squeezed to death, much like the blockade on Cuba is doing to the Cuban people. We are forced to have Gitmos, like it or not. The opposition party has still not woken up to the full extent of the horrors occurring right now, and they refuse to imagine the horrors yet to come. No artfully crafted, strongly worded letter can stop this. It is up to the people to do it, with their voices, with their bodies, with nationwide strikes, and with the refusal to let this continue.
